MG MGB Technical - 'Oversize' camshaft query
Am looking at a listing that states that it's an "oversize" camshaft. No measurements are given , just that a mechanic stated that the lobes are ovesized. Is this a good thing? And what does that mean for performance and running? Thanks

Without specs, there's absolutely no way to know.

With the limited information given, I can only assume that it is a higher lift, longer duration camshaft, that is designed to give better performance than the stock unit. How much of an improvement, if any, would depend on what application the camshaft was designed to enhance. RAY

The stock camshaft is a decent one, piper 270 is a slight improvement without going radical. High lift cams are largely pontless unless you want to build a high rev unit and therefore lose the low end torque. High lifts can also cause problems if heads and block deck have been skimmed and you have a big valve head.

| Once again I chime in, the Piper HR 285 Peter sold me 8 years ago idles at 7-800 languidly, with no dastardly lope of any note, and just pulls like a train from 2800 to 6800. This of course in conjunction with Peter's FRBV head also purchased at the same time. As Allan notes above the 62 spec cam is a well regarded performance dish as is the stock exhaust manifold.
