MG MGB Technical - Main bearing bolt washer? 18V engine
| I finally pulled enough money together to start my B's engine rebuild. The car is a '67 but the engine is the later 18V type. I realized this evening there were no washers under the main bearing bolts. Moss doesn't show any, but VB shows them at almost $3 each. Should there be washers? If yes, I assume flat washers, and I hope I can buy some at Home Depot. Thanks in advance. Dave

NO! there are no washers on 18V engines - the washers you saw are to go under the nuts on 18G series engines. The reason those ones are expensive is that they are hardened.

Nice color for a GT, Dave; very sophisticated. And, good thing you don't need the washers because you certainly could not use the ones from Home Depot if it did. Charley

David- As Chris and Charley said, you don't use washers there. However, any washers on the engine should be hardened machine washers. Never, ever, make the mistake of using cheap, soft, hardware store washers.

Thanks for the reply gentlemen! And the compliment on the color Charley, I like it too.
