MG MGB Technical - Hood Clamps
Can someone tell me if there is a difference between the early stow away hood clamps and the later folding frame clamps. I have a 69 C with the original windshield frame and a later folding frame and need to replace the clamps. Not sure which to get, the early or late? Thanks! Jim

Jim I think early are Chrome, late brushed anodised finish. CP

The later satin finish clamps are a little longer and look a little narrower than the earlier more square chrome plated clamps.( I haven't measured them though). I've got the original chrome squarer clamps on my 1965 MGB's soft top, and fitted the later ones to my refurbished hardtop. (The earlier ones weren't available when I was first restoring my hard top about 15 years ago.) Both seem to do the job perfectly well. I imagine it's a case of what's available, and what your own preference is.

James, I used the latest folding frame on my '69 B which worked fine until a very large passenger pushed the seat all the way back. The later frame does not sissor in and folds directly behind the seat and punched a hole in the right edge of the seat. Move the seat back to check clearance and install a stop if required. That may be why the later seats taper in to the top while the early seats are straight up. Joe G

Great information, thank you! I will likely use the chrome ones as I believe those are the ones used originally on the '69 B and C. I'll check more closely before ordering. Joe, thanks for the heads up on the seat issue. Ripping a hole in my new seat covers would be upsetting to say the least. One of the things I love about this BB is the participation of MG lovers from all over the world. Great forum with folks who really love their MG's and are willing to share there knowledge and experience without using the board to share their political views. Again, thanks! Best regards, Jim
