MG MGB Technical - Heater switch - wrong way round?
This might seem a bit mad but it's really bugging me. My heater (Fan) switch (1970 Roadster) is 'down' (Actually horizontal) when off so the switch has to be moved 'up' to switch the fan on. All the pictures I have seen show the switch 'up' as off. I'd be a bit amazed if all photos were taken with the heater fan 'on' :). The switch appears to be the original so my question is this: is it possible that the motor is wired the wrong way? (obviously reversing the wires on the switch will do nothing.) It is possible that the heater has been removed in the past but I don't know for sure as I have no history. Any thoughts? TIA

The switches are pretty generic, or it may have been changed. Most of them have multiple circuits possible, depending on which wires are plugged where on the switch. If the switch has "unused" terminals, then there is likely another way of plugging in wires that will reverse the ON/OFF positions. FRM

I wonder if a previous owner deliberately mounted the switch upside down to distinguish it from other switches, like the wiper switch. In the dark its easy to find the wrong one. Why not just loosen the locking ring and turn it round? Oh, and by the way, reversing the wires on the heater motor won't help either. All that will happen is that the fan will operate backwards, but the switch will still be "on" when it points up. Turning the switch round is the only cure.

Thanks. Turning the switch won't work as it has a 'flat' side. anyway if it was 'upside down' the lever would be 'down' for of which IMO would be worse than current :) It has no unused terminals. So I guess a new switch is the plan.
