MG MGB Technical - Heater intake grill

Small Problem: Heater intake grill. I have a heritage shell MGB GT. The car was re-shelled from a 1966 car. The heater intake grill was retained from the original car to be transferred over. – The mounting pins don’t line up with the pre drilled holes in the shell.
I assumed that there may have been a small change in the evolution of the body work. I ordered a new part AHH6102. The same problem the pins don’t line up with the holes in the body. The difference is a 5mm on two of the pins. Has anyone had this problem before? The shell has been painted so I am a little reluctant to re-drill the holes.

I had the same problem on the tailgate of my GT which has the skeleton badges needing multiple holes. Not all the pins on the new badges lined up with the holes in the hatch. As it was only a couple of them, I filed off the mis-fitting pins. The remaining pins were quite enough to keep the badges secure. I can't recall how many pins there are on the grille, but I suspect it will be perfectly OK with two pins missing.

Clausager states and the Parts Catalogue indicates that the air intake did *not* change during production. It would grieve me to have to buy a new one when I didn't need one (assuming the current ones fit the shells!) but I would far rather do that than re-drill the body, and the cost of a new grille has to be pretty marginal.

There are six pins on the grill, I would do as Mike Howlett suggests and cut off the two misplaced pins rather than drill the bodywork. I've just replaced the same grill on mine and the old one was held on by just two pins glued in with silicon sealant, the others had long since been broken off.
