MG MGB Technical - Heater concern
| Hello, Can someone confirm if there should be a foam pad on the underside of the heater. I have heard that the flap shouldn't travel fully in one direction but there should be a foam pad to make up the gap. Is this true only i can't find the foam pad on any schematics from moss or the mg owners club. Many thanks, |

| What do you mean by 'underside'? The heater sits on a 1/2" wide sealing strip to keep out rain, there is a fairly stiff foam seal intended to seal between the car bulkhead and the heater outlets, and there is a seal between the rear bulkhead and the heater fan inlet. The only other foam is a piece wrapped around the heater radiator, but inside the heater box of course. Basically, if it's not shown on the Moss schematics it's not required. |

There should be foam strips to stop the air direction flap rattling against the sides of the bottom air channel, see attached. Apart from the motor and the matrix the heater unit is only available as a complete unit, hence component parts aren't shown by the usual suspects. Judging by the appearance it is relatively low-density foam, i.e. compressed as the flap closes onto it, so as not to restrict movement.
