MG MGB Technical - Head Stud Washers

Can anyone provide a reason for the extra thick washers used under the cylinder head nuts on the MGB engine?

It's strictly a curiosity point on my part.

Its to make them more robust and durable. They need to be tough. You some times see a standard type washer used in place of a lost one and they can squish under tension and even the tightening action. If you buy ARP studs they come with special hardened washers for high performance use.
