MG MGB Technical - Gearbox question - 3 synchro

I have rebuilt a few all-synchro gearboxes in the past, and am now doing the same on the 3-synchro for my '67 GT.

I have the first and third (main) motion shafts in place and all seems well. These 2 shafts spin seperately until I put the laygear shaft in place, then they seem to spin as a unit, even though no "gear" is selected (it's in neutral).

It seems I should be able to hold the main shaft and spin the first motion shaft freely after they are mated with the laygear. I've taken this back apart a few times and am certain all is as it should be.

Am I missing something?

It is probably just a synchro ring sticking to one of the gears. Try prying/prising them away from each gear and see if it makes a difference.
