MG MGB Technical - Gearbox bolt size

Hi All,

I need to know what size the bolts are that attatch the gearbox to the engine . I think there are several sizes required.

Hi Neil

Depends which year the car was manufactured.
Check the part number of the bolts on Moss site, then look up the bolt size here:

For my car (1979 BGT) the bolts are:
BH605221 (4 off) 'short' 5/16 UNF x 2 3/4 inch
BH605241 (1 off) 'intermediate' 5/16 UNF x 3 inch
BH605261 (2 off) 'long' 5/16 UNF x 3 1/4 inch

The 3-speed g/box on early B's has different bolt sizes.

Note that Moss describe BH605221 as 'long' and BH605261 as 'short'. This is also as they are described on the British Leyland microfiche. I believe this is an error.
