MG MGB Technical - Fitting later st eering column switches
Just wondering how easy/difficult it would be to fit the twin column switches used in '74 (I think) models to a '72 roadster? Anyone done this or could advise for/against?

The problem is the column shroud. You need the bigger shroud to cover the twin stalks and the bigger shroud only fits if you use a later dashboard with the 80mm gauges instead of your dashboard which has 100mm instruments. Having said that, I did fit twin stalks on my '69 car. I used stalks from a Mini and fitted them with the indicator on the left and wiper on the right, so that it is the same as my everyday car. I had to cut the mounting for the wiper stalk and weld it up smaller, and then I made a wider shroud using four bits of old shroud cut and glued together. I covered the new shroud in black vinyl and it doesn't look bad, although I say it myself.

Mike, I knew it wouldn't be easy. Thanks for the ideas. I'm off to the Beaulieu autojumble next week so maybe I'll look out for bits.
