MG MGB Technical - Distributor for HIF carbs?

I am replacing the ZS carb on my 79B with a pair of HIF carbs. I have been searching the archives to determine the best distributor to use. It seems that a Lucas 41610 is the right one.

However, I wonder what will happen if I try to start the engine with the stock 79 carb. I assume it would start but maybe not perform well. Or should I not even attempt to run the engine with the stock 79 distributor?

I welcome opinions and insights. Thanks!

With today's modern fuels, your best bet is to send your distributor to Jeff Schlemmer at Advanced Distributors and have him tailor the advance curve to your needs. Click on this: http://www.advanceddistributors.com/index.htm
