MG MGB Technical - crossmember bolt torque/urethane pads
Following a mention on a recent thread regarding rear suspension, I was wondering about the torque settings for the crossmember bolts when using polyurethane pads. I have torqued up to the specified 55ft lbs but the pads are looking a bit squashed. Is this normal?

Unless they are solid surely they will squash, as will rubber. 55 (oiled threads) looks correct, and is more important I'd say.

Steve Having just replaced the pads on mine as part of a castor reduction kit, it's my understanding that by torquing it down to the specified 55ft lbs you will compress the pads, as the idea is for the metal plate that compresses the pads should bottoms out on a shoulder on the stud. The idea being that the pads are compressed to a degree that's determined by the thickness of the pads, and the specified torque setting ensures that the plate is hard up against the shoulder. Bob

OK Thanks. Looks like it's normal.
