MG MGB Technical - Chrome side strip

Further to my question re front suspension springs I notice measurements are taken usually from the middle of the wheel to the underside of the chrome side strips.

Are these chrome trim strips meant to be parallel to the ground?
AdrianS

It doesnt matter. You are only interested in the chrome strip where it is directly above the wheel. If thereis a small angle when you take the measuremt it forms the hypotenues of a right angle triangle so it it is the answer you want times the cosine of a very small angle, or .9999 x the answer.

I just wondered if these strips were meant to be paralel to the ground as a rough indicator if the front and rear ride heights were correct or even with whatever springs were fitted.
AdrianS

I think the sills and chrome strips should be parallel to the ground when the suspension, tyres etc. are balanced and correct, but not seen any hard and fast statement of that. The body alignment drawing in the Workshop Manual implies that.
