MG MGB Technical - Cam Chain Tensioner Ring
| The 948cc and 1098cc A Series engines had a tensioner ring on the drive sprocket, but its use was abandoned on the later engines. How did it worK? Was abandoning it just a cost-cutting measure, or was it a source of trouble, or what? |

| FWIW it was useless. It was a dirt-cheap attempt at a timing chain tensioner to make for quiet running. Fair enough a new ring did take out the slack in the chain, but it very soon lost its tension and the chain became as noisy as before. So not a source of trouble exactly, more saving the cost of a part that did nothing worthwhile. |
