MG MGB Technical - Brakes
Gents, I hadn't driven my 1977 MGB in a few weeks, and found the brake pedal a little too close to the floor this morning. I checked the brake fluid level in the reservoir and added about 1/4 cup. However, this model car has two reservoirs. It looks like the front one doesn't have any fluid in it. I will look for leaks tonight when I have a minute, checking the front calipers, rear drums, and lines. Question: How to I get the fluid into the front reservoir (I know, it's simple when you know how, but I forgot). Thanks in advance, Randy Olson Ithaca, NY 1977 MGB Tahiti Blue/Tan, twin SU's

When you fill the main reservoir, the fluid will go over the divider and fill the front of the unit. RAY

That reservoir is for the rear (from memory) so it may be worth starting to investigate for leaks there!

The pedal *will* go down further if one chamber is empty, and the front chamber is for the rear brakes. Filling to the correct point should put the fluid level significantly higher than the divider hence fill both sections. If the front chamber *was* empty as sounds likely then it will need bleeding - after you have found and fixed the leak. Master with integral booster I assume, so unscrew the balance switch on the bottom of the master before bleeding, and screw back afterwards.
