MG MGB Technical - BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER

Unable to get fluid into forward[rear brakes]reservoir of tandem m/c.My B is a78 ex california,ex japan, now RHD conversion in australia.
By what method is top-up fluid meant to flow into forward reservoir, its completely empty.
I have removed pressure warning switch.Ihave opened rear brake line at m/c but no fluid.Front slaves bleed ok.
System was perfect until i had a leaking rear slave so replaced l and r and lost a quantity of fluid in the process.
Anyone got a solution?

Hi Beattie, I am no expert but according to the haynes manual the brakes have to be bled in a special way on these late models (I have a 77 B roadster also from USA) - starting at the rear first. Before doing anything the pressure warning switch/valve on the understand of the MC has to be opened/released by 3.5 turns - thus withdrawing/releasing the piston out of the fluid chamber which balances the pressure and fluid front and rear. It sounds to me as though fluid is not getting to to the rear.

Is your brake warning light on constantly? Apparantly this can mean unbalance in the system re pressure/and or fluid loss...

Hope it helps...

There is a simple weir in the reservoir which means you have to fill to the very top of the neck for fluid to flow into the forward part. If the warning switch is seized (often is) you can still bleed by only using half the pedal travel (gently) to avoid moving the valve. Alernately use a power bleeder such as the cheap one from Moss or one which sucks the fluid thro the bleed nipple.

Well, that was easy...thanks Jim and also Moss
Yes,all i needed to get fluid into front ressrvoir was to virtually overfill rear chamber. ihad pocked around with wire but opening is almost at top of dam
