MG MGB Technical - Banjo axle rebuild

I need to refit the pinion into the the nose casting of a banjo axle.

The workshop manual requires you to zero your dial gauge by reference to a factory slip gauge like tool that has 3 steps in it labled A B &C. Step B is the one to use. I do not have this factory tool. Can anyone tell me the height of step B or have the tool for me to borrow or rent?

Thanks,

David

Barney Gaylord has a lot about the MGA/B axle on his website: http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/rearaxle/ra1.htm

This is the bit about the pinion: http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/rearaxle/ra120.htm

Thanks Steve.

Any ideas as to how to measure the preload.

Is 10 inch/lb 1lb on the end of a 10 inch lever, 2lb on the end of a 5inch lever etc?
