MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Using a Rover LT77 gearbox
I am just getting all my parts together to start my V8 conversion, Using a LT77 gearbox is there an easy modification to the gearbox support cross member? or is it worth getting an already modified cross memeber? I believe the mounts are offset for the LT77?

GLG, when I did my conversion (more than 20 years ago), I moved the crossmenber a little to the front and fixed it throug a hole cut in the floor from above. You will see the original mounting through the hole and have to fabricate two new ones. It's easy. After final fitting of the gearbos, spotweld these two lashes and weld the holes in the floor, thats all. Good luck Ralph

There are new mounting brackets available from Clive Wheatley (I used these). They take the place of the brackets on an original MGB cross-member and the modified cross-member will bolt up to the original holes in the frame rails. If you have the book "How to give your MGB V8 power", page 37 shows the cross-member before and after the modifications.
