MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Tacho Wiring
I need some help with the wiring of the tacho in my CB conversion. I recently took over a stalled project car and have now got round to connecting things up. The car came with a new harness and I'm having trouble figuring out what connects to what on the back of the gauge. The gauge has a male spade connector, a male bullet and a female bullet connector. The wiring diagram only shows 2 connections going to the gauge, the white and black from the coil and a live feed from the voltage stabiliser. Which wire goes to which terminal????

Hard to say unless we know what year your car is and if it has the original type tach. There were a couple of styles used in Bs. The wiring diagram at http://www.advanceautowire.com/ might help you figure it out.

I have removed my gauges and switches in order to install a new wiring harnessfrom Advance Auto-wire. Finally had a chance to go out to the shop and have a look at the tach along with my notes. My car is a 1977 and I am not sure whether it is the original tach or not. A white/black wire connects to the large pin, two green wires connect to the spade, two black wires attach to a spade mounted on a screw attached to the back of the tach and of course there is a spot to insert the guage light. It is a Smith tach, having provision for two idiot lights to plug into the back for other various functions. Does anybody here know what these two idiot lights would be used for, one has an orange lens, the other a green lens. Dave

Bill, Many thanks for the link, I found the schematic I needed on Diagram 6 70-71 MGB which shows a white wire from the coil to one side of the tacho and another white wire coming back out and going to the ignition switch, there is also a green wire from the voltage stabiliser. This has got to be the clearest wiring diagram I've come across. Many thanks Steve

Steve, glad to help, but the credit goes to Dan Masters for providing the great schematics as part of his website. Thanks Dan!
