MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Springs and things
Hi All, I tagged this onto the back of my other thread but it is a bit OT. So here it is here: Thanks for the tips. The engine and box are now in, not much blood at all really. I have another issue, I renewed the front and rear springs which lifted the car up high which I did not worry about as it was basically a rolling shell, but putting the engine and box in have hardly moved the front of the car down at all. Given that none of the glass, interior, exterior fittings, doors, bonnet, tailgate, anciliaries or anything else is in the car yet how much more can I expect it to drop when I get these in? The hub centre to bottom of front wing gap is currently about 43cm. If it doesn't drop further there is no way I can get the propshaft to clear the heel board!! Liam

I might add, it s chrome bumper GT. The new springs had the same dimensions as the old ones I took out, which did compress when the engine was test fitted. I know they are NOT roadster srings which are much bigger because my supplier (who keeps getting things wrong) gave me a set of those first by mistake, and they were a couple of inches longer than the ones I finally put in. I didn't torque up the front suspension, wishbones etc when I refitted them, as per the advice I got on the BBS, although I am planning to loosen everything right off again just to be sure. Cheers, Liam

Liam You are right to loosen everything off, wait until you have the car rebuilt before you finally torque load everything. Graham
