MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Speedometer

My mechanic is in the process of finishing up a V8 conversion on my 1980 mgb. The last transmission in the car before the conversion to a 3.9 litre engine/T5 transmission was a Nissan 5 speed.

The speedometer needle is wobbly and off by a 1/3 (reads 90 when actually doing 60). What info can i discuss with my mechanic to fix the wobble and correct the offset?

Go electronic, full conversion cost me approx. $300.00

If it were just wobbling then it could well just be a dry cable or broken strands, but the gross under-reading is either a defect in the speedo or a big mis-match in the gearbox drive and/or rear axle and/or wheels and tyres to the original. If it's consistent and the odometer is consistently under-reading by the same amount then it is calibration, you will have to work out the turns per mile of your speedo drive cable, then send it off for recalibration to someone like Nissonger, although sometimes you can gearboxes to correct the drive turns to the speedo turns (which are printed on the face).
