MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Speedo cable run

Hi all,
I have just been trying to fit my new speedo cable to my 69 V8 conversion and i can't see a good run for the cable. Can anyone help please. The car is running a LT77 5 speed so I have done the tunnel mod. There was no cable in the car when I got it so I didn't see the original run.

cheers
Steve

FWIW and in case you didn't already know the original cable goes out of the cabin through a hole in the top of the foot rest for a RHD driver, by the right-hand footwell heater vent, curving up and backwards to the speedo in a relatively gentle curve from there. I've no idea how that helps with an LT77.

that's just the info I needed

Hi Steve,
The following advice is from the conversion of a 1980 RB GT so there may be some differences to your car. The speedo cable exits the the LT77 gearbox on the passenger side, is taken forward and under the cast iron section of the gearbox to the drivers side, up into the tunnel and into the cabin through the grommetted access hole near the the clutch lever. From there it runs to the rear of the speedo case. You should measure out the run with stiff wire before having it made by a speedo cable manufacturer and be sure to keep the cable away from the exhaust system when installing it.The fittings for the LT77 end and the MGB speedo end were quite hard to get in South Africa, the former having to be machined up to a sample.

Tony,
thanks for the info. I have followed your advise and it fits well.
