MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Small block Ford water neck questions

I picked up a chrome water neck for small block Fords this weekend from a local Checker auto parts ( a Spectre brand). It is complete crap. The bolt holes are not spaced right, the "figure 8" style o ring has no backing near the bolt hole and looks very prone to blowing, and the chrome quality is terrible. I just wanted something shiny that works. I took this one back to the store, but now I'm on the hunt for something better. Any testimonials for something that works? On a related note...what's the theory with the small water bypass connection that Ford's use? My water pump has two small water outlets, and I assume one of these connects to the water bypass on the water neck and the other to the heater core?

Thanks,

Scott

P.S. Driveshaft issue resolved!

Scott,
Ford Racing (aka Ford Motorsport) has several bright thermostat housings available - 4 w/O'ring seal and a couple without. Part nos are M-8592-A302, B302, F390, A429, A351 & C302. You might try to query on the Ford Racing site or Summit Racing site for availability and a pic of each.
Usually, the functionality of the bypass is to allow partial coolant flow (eliminate local cylinder head hotspots) until such time that full coolant flow is achieved when the thermostat opens.
The two water pump connections, as you correctly assumed, are for the engine bypass and the heater return.
On my conversion, I just stuck with a Ford OEM 45 degree aluminum elbow - I suppose it could be polished to a bright finish if that is desired.
