MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - RV8 strange exhaust design
| Ive finally started work again on my long term V8 conversion.. and it gives me reason to return to this excellent forum. Structural work all done, but the wide arch body is taking a long time. I put a lot of effort into building a nice motor, and decided to get the engine (RV8) installed... to spur me on??!! Its a rubber bumper GT, with a repostioned rack on a chromeB Xmember.... took along time. I have abandonded the block hugger manifolds that came with the car and have purchased RV8 style from MGHive.. very nice manifolds. What I cant figure, if they did not have the attached welded down pipe, they would require a much smaller hole cut in the inner wing and would be easy to install and remove. Anybody know of a reason I should not cut these at the down tube, seems obvious to me, but I,m not that bright? Any advise greatly appriciated. Brian |

| Brian, I have the B hive RV8 ssystem on my car and was very pleased with the excellent quality of the welding and the reasonable price. The only downside is that they have to be installed prior to fitting the engine but being stainless steel there hopefully should be no reason to remove the manifolds for the forseeable future. Cutting off the down pipe after the collector would make this simpler but would have no effect on the size of the holes that require cutting out of the inner wings. The bonus with the holes in the inner wings is that it opens the engine bay to a low pressure area and improves cooling of the engine bay by a large margin, even when at standstill and the fans cut in the amount of heat that exits through the front wheel arches is quite surprising. It also has the effect of lowering the pressure under the car as the air has somewhere to go rather than being forced under the car so should reduce lift at speed. Kevin.

| And another later shot. If you are looking fo any tech advice re rover V8 engines you will get good advice on The V8 Owners Forum. http://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/index.php?sid=df7988faa6ab21594a588ef5850a8f17 Please note that this picture was taken when we had fitted a couple of shims to the drivers side engine mounting to give clearance between the steering shaft and the rearmost exhaust flange which raised the engine too much, I have now removed one of the shims which positions the manifold more central to the holes cut from the B hive templates. The car is now painted in Jaguar Alpine Green. Kevin.
