MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Propylene Glycol Coolant
| Has anyone used the above coolant in a Buick or Rover engine? |
| Jeff Howell |
I have, since about '92, and it works absolutely fine. When I used to be in the truck business, I saw extensive test results that proved propylene glycol is completely fine in long haul trucks (which have aluminum radiators...) Personally, I strongly prefer propylene glycol because it's much less toxic than ethylene glycol, so if you spill or leak it you don't have to worry so much about your (or your neighbor's) pet dieing a painful death from kidney failure. Ethylene glycol coolant kills lots of animals, apparently because its taste appeals to them. It's not something you want in streams or wells. Not that you'd especially want to drink propylene glycol either, but propylene glycol IS commonly used as an ingredient in food... it's what keeps Cool Whip from freezing. Of course, you should dilute either coolant 50/50 with water. The two types of coolant do have different specific gravities, so if you mix them with each other you won't be able to measure the overall mixture's level of dilution (i.e. how much water is in the mix.) |
