MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Princess brake pad retainers

Has anyone been able to source brake pad retainers that fit princess brake calipers that have had the spacer kit fitted (ie wider than standard)? I have Green-stuff pads ready to fit, so don't want to buy (expensive) OEM RV8 pads, which do include the retainers I believe. Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete,

What size do you need, I'm using SD1 Vitesse calipers, I have a spare set of 4 retaining springs, they measure 2.48" 'across the gap'...is this the right size ?

Hi Mike,
Great minds think alike. I have a spare pair of vitesse calipers from my donor car and did take a look to see if the retainers would fit. However, the princess calipers are 2.2" across the gap. I believe that pad fitting kits for the vitesse are still available, so if I can't source the correct part, one option would be to trim 0.15" off each side of the vitesse retainers. Thanks Mike. Trimming the springs is not a problem, but the fixing pins are also shorter (although I believe people use long split pins as an alternative).

Would you like me to send the spare ones to you, they are unused, and could probably be trimmed by judicious use of an angle grinder.

My younger son, Rob, has moved to Fareham recently....so we are due a visit...when will the car be ready ?
