MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - PCV Routing
Can anyone help me straighten out the PCV plumbing on my car? I run an Olds 215 with Carter 4bl and Edlebrock valve covers. Right now there is a breather on the pass side valve cover with a hose attached including a pcv valve. This hose is plugged into a hefty port on the front of the carb. There is also a hose running from the air cleaner body straight to a port on the pass side of the carb. The engine runs great except when I floor it, say in 3rd gear to pass, then it really breaks up. When I back off the gas, it runs fine again. Thanks for the help.

Āllen, One valve cover needs a breather for air to enter the crankcase (requires no hosing or PCV valve). The other valve cover needs a PCV valve (usually retained with a rubber grommet) with a hose attaching to the front of the carb base (usually 3/8" hose).

Allen, Just re-read my first post and should have added the following option: In lieu of the breather cap installed in one valve cover, you can run a hose from the air cleaner base to that valve cover opening. The other valve cover still needs the PCV valve and hosed to the carb base. The fresh air inlet and PCV valve should not be installed in the same cover.

Thanks, Graham. Only problem is that only one of the Edlebrock valve covers has an opening, and that is a large opening, such as for a breather, or just an oil filler cap. Right now, it has a rather loose fitting breather with a hose attached, a pcv valve in the hose, and routed to the front of the carb. Any suggestions?

I too have the Oldsmobile 215 (stroked to 269 ci) and I run a breather cap on each valve cover, nothing to the carb (except from the power brake booster) and no PCV valve...runs great. The car is over 25 years old and here in NY there is no emissions inspection for cars that old (BTW the engine is 15 years older than the car). I am however using the Offenhauser valve covers, not the stock Oldsmobile ones.
