Here are some preliminary competition and statistical results from the British V8 meet (held last weekend). ================================================== Nelson Ledges Roadrace Track - Quickest Timed Lap: Pete Mantell in his MGB with Ford V8 (342cid) ================================================== Autocross Results... Driving their own cars (or their dad's car): (1) 34.00s - Carl Floyd, MGB with Buick 215 V8 (2) 35.48s - Graeme Harvey, MGB with Rover 3.5 (215cid) V8 (3) 36.78s - Bill Yobi, MGB with Olds 215 V8 (4) 36.92s - Max Fulton, MGB with MG 4 cylinder Driving Carl's car (just for fun): (1) 34.82s - Bill Yobi (2) 35.00s - Graeme Harvey (3) 36.56s - Max Fulton Quickest MGB-V6: 38.91s - Scott Costanzo (3.1L V6 EFI) Quickest Triumph: 38.06s - Dale Karavac (TR6 with Ford 4-cylinder 2.3L turbo) ================================================== British V8 Valve Cover Race Curtis Jacobson completely dominated with his chromed Oldsmobile "Retro-Rocket-Mobile" (with valve cover circa ~1955), featuring sparking red front wheels. Hopefully next year there'll be a LOT more entrants... ================================================== The Weighing of the Cars We took "corner weights" with and without driver for 27 of the 60+ engine-conversion cars at the meet. However, no effort was made to equalize or subtract fuel or cargo load. The lightest MGB weighed was Scott Costanzo's 1968 with 3.1L GM V6-EFI, at 2113#. The heaviest MGB weighed was Steve Ward's 1980 with Chevy LT1 engine, at 2600#. ================================================== A complete report on The British V8 2007 meet, including "all the numbers", will appear in the next issue of the online newsletter at http://www.britishv8.org ... due out in September. |
