MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - New timing cover

I am looking for a new SD1 sytle timing cover for my conversation. Do I have to go for a second hand route (ie from D&D) or I suspect I can use a new Buick. If I can use a new Buick what year / model of car? Do I have to make any modifications to fit larger oil pump gears.

Any help is appreciated.

Once upon a time, there was a new timing cover being sold with bigger gears for the oil pump, a replacement casting for the Buick Grand National V6 that would work. Try looking in the drag racer/street rod mags for an add. Timing marks would be incorrect.

A used Buick 300 front over has the longer gears but timing marks are also incorrect, and it would be a used part. Bucik/Olds 215 covers have short gears need a spacer, and are used parts.

Simplest and cheapest is to buy a cover from D & D and have them install the larger oil pump gears and maybe a swivel mount for the oil filter. There is nothing wrong with used in this case, they clean up nicely, and D & D does that for you.

I purchased a new Grand National cover for $90. Advance auto parts I think is who I got mine from. Needed to drill out the holes for the dowel pins larger but that was all I need to fit it on my Rover 4.6L. Oh and grind down a rib on the top that was interfering with the cover seating on the block. I then used the Buick dizzy from D&D. This front cover came with the larger gears and does not use a plate as the older ones need. But the drive is the opposite of the Rover ie like the old P5 Rover.
As Jim states the timing markes are wrong though. Mark you own with engine at TDC
