MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - MGB Simple Upgrade

O.K. I've built standard ones, but am doing a Heritage re-shell. Is there an easy (ish) engine conversion that can be done without much adaption?? Something like a Ford 2.0 OHC or something readily available?? Sorry, haven't followed this section, so please direct me to previous posts.

I'd start by becomming a member, if you aren't already one, then go into the archives and do a search foe "easiest engine conversion".Select "all these words". Start reading.

I'm guessing the on your side of the pond, most will say the Rover V8. Done by the factory, etc. Over here, it'll probably be a toss-up between the Rover and GMs 60* V6.

If you haven't already bought your shell, I remember reading that you can special order them in a chrome bumper version but with the engine compartment and transmission tunnel from the later car making it the best, IMHO, option for a conversion.

Let the debate begin!

You can get them (new body shells) with all these features.
Exhaust clearance on inner wings,
correct/forward radiator mountings,tray
Upward extension to the gearbox tunnel for SD1 gear boxes.
Oil filter bracket.
Recessed bulkheads,for engine head clearance.
Recessed steering U joint
Deeper heel board strengther(for bigger drive shaft)
V8 style engine mounts
The part number is (I think, do check)BMH4011
They might even do RV8 style exhaust holes if you ask.
You can buy the engine mounts, Clive Wheatley and others sell all the bolt on bits (exhaust systems, radiators hoses etc)if you want them. No welding not cutting. Essentially an "off the shelf" boltin process.

Andrew, The Rover V8 is the most popular, so many of us have done them that there is a load of practical advice available.

In any event....best advice is buy the book "How to give your MGB V8 power"...it's all in there, and will help you decide if this is the route to take.

I've never regretted my conversion, it transforms the car into a modern high performance motor, without raising reliability issues.
