MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Liner Problem?
Hi, I seem to have a recurring problem with pressurisation of cooling system. Heads check out as flat, but within days of refitting as soon as i use a bit of upper rev range i get missing, rough running then overheating with gases in coolant system. Last incident was worst yet with signs of oil contamination in valve intake areas of heads???, well in inlet anyway. If its a liner related problem is there any quick way of checking this out or does it mean a strip down job? Will get heads checked for cracks but no obvious signs of this. No coolant signs in oil. 10.5/1, Comp gaskets. Danny.

Which engine? If Rover what capacity and is it a cross bolted block?
Nigel Steward
Nigel, It's a 3.5 Vitesse,1980 engine. 9.5/1,thick block? Dont know about cross bolted?? My official engine supplement doesnt contain anything about liner detail. Dont want to think that is the prob cos of the hassle, but i do have a spare high comp block if necessary. Danny.

To my v8 conversion rover3.5 I have fitted to the top of the engine bay a water tank. To the top of radiator one hose catch the bubbles of air to the top of water tank. I refill the water cooling system by the bottom radiator hose. regards http://membres.lycos.fr/mgcontact/fileupload/uploads/debuble.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/mgcontact/fileupload/uploads/fillup.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/mgcontact/fileupload/uploads/1128762354_watertank.jpg

Michel, Thanks for images, i'm afraid your car is to Saturn Rocket as mine is to German V1. Unfortunately the degree of pressurisation is such that catch tanks etc are not a feasible option, worst luck. Danny.
