MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Intermediate timing cover?
This is really for the guys with RHD MG's. Is anyone using the intermediate timing cover (crank driven oil pump with dizzy) in their conversion. Is their major modifications so that the oil filter clears the steering box? Has anyone setup a remote filter with this cover? Any help would be appreciated. Graeme

Graeme I am a left(proper) hand driver, but I am using the cover you describe with a 4.0 Rover in a 1978 body. I have a chrome bumper front cross member and had to move the steering rack to clear the filter. I suppose you could use a remote filter, as there are oil in & outlet pipe connections on the cover, but moving the rack is not a big deal. Had I used the rubber bumper cross member, I think the filter would have cleared, but I wanted the lower ride height. After cutting the sheet metal rack supports about half way down, and with the rack bolted to the supports, I moved the rack to where it cleared the fiter and was at the original height to maintain the correct Ackerman angle. I had previously removed the shaft from the universal at the fire wall. Once all was lined up, I tacked the rack supports in position, removed the rack & finished welded the supports. No big deal. I had to shorten the shaft, but I had to do that anyway due to changing the cross member.

Graeme, every Bop/Rover RHD car has to have a remote oil filter because the steering column uses the same space that the standard oil pump/filter requires. Barrie E
