MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - How far can I tilt the steering rack?

Guys, I m fitting an MGB steering rack (actually the whole front X-member out of a B into an old MGA chassis being fitted with a Rover V8(this has now been fitted). My question is this, to clear the rear exhaust manifold I intend to rotate the rack. Just how far can I rotate before I affect the steering geometry? Hopefully I can get away with about 10mm spacer under the front bolt mounts. What do those that know recommend?

Rotating on the axis should not affect it at all since it a ball and socket joint. Moving it forward or up/down will start to change ackerman and/or create bump steer. I did exactly the same on my A too (Buick 215). Haven't driven it yet...

Mark, I'd be surprised if the mounting bolts will line up if you lift the front 10mm. The bolt holes in the B rack are fairly deep and narrow. I think you'd have better results if you notched the entire mount on the subframe and rotated it, reinforcing as needed. As Scott said, rotating around the original axis shouldn't have any effect on the geometry.
