MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - GM 4.3 V6

I am familiar with some of the smaller block conversions, but am trying to find out if the GM 4.3 V6 -- the kind used in some of the small SUV's and pick-um-up trucks will fit into an MGB.
Also, assuming it would, how 'bout the 5-speed Xmission?
Would it fit?

My mechanic is drooling to do an engine swap, and a 4.3 is available. It would save a lot of grief if we didn't have to search out a smaller one.

Thank you to any who may have information here.

Oz, the 4.3 has been used in some swaps, but it's not the easiest fit. The T5 5 speed is a good fit and is the same trans used with the majority of 3.4 and Rover swaps here in the US. The main problem with the 4.3 is the width which makes header fabrication and routing a little more difficult. I suggest you take a look at the British V8 Newsletter photo pages http://www.britishv8.org/Photos-MG-Conversions.htm
for coverage of other 4.3 swaps and also the small block V8 swaps which are similar. Particuarally the swap by Ed Brotherton which is really nicely done and finished.

Like Bill says, it's been done. However, if you're really interested in saving a lot of grief you'd be much further ahead finding a 3.4 v6. It installs easily with a $600 kit, while the 4.3 is all fabrication from the start. You can't have someone build custom headers for the 4.3 for that price. Neither engine is rare or expensive to find, so the fact that you just happen to have a 4.3 available is not a good reason to use it.

Thank you both. We will have to sit down and evaluate some more. There is a 100 acre or so wrecking yard just up the road. Maybe we will take a tour soon.
