MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Fuel lines from stainless
Hi guys, I'm running new fuel lines from 5/16" stainless, anticipating possibly having to run ethanol in the future. As it's brand new, for now I'm leaving the stock tank in place. The old fuel line has some kind of tapered fitting on the end of it where it fits inside the male connector part at the tank. Looks like it may be sweated on. What is this kind of fitting called, and can I get one at a good parts store, then sweat it on the stainless line? Also, what type of connectors should I use for the rest of the system? I'll be using a throttle body injection setup, and I don't think these use huge amounts of pressure, but more than stock. I don't think AN fittings will work because of the 5/16" line; I've heard they aren't made in that size, only 1/4 and 3/8. I'm using 5/16" because I thought 3/8" would be overkill for my 215 with 300 heads, about 247 ci. Any recommendations? Thanks, Joe

Joe, Aeroquip shows a -5 braze on AN male fitting in their catalog. http://hydraulics.eaton.com/products/pdfs/fc/A-HOOV-MC001-E_08_Adapters_245-293.pdf This should be the size you need, as AN sizing goes by the 1/16" for each dash size. I have used this type fitting on a metric line by boring out the fitting slightly. Check with your local hydraulics store also, they usually carry JIC fittings, which are the same as the AN only in steel or stainless rather than aluminum and usually much less expensive. By the way, I think the original fitting at the tank was a compression fitting, which you probably could get copied at your local hydraulics shop also.

Wow, my computer'll barely handle that catalog, but I saw some braze-on fittings in there, and I know some of the local people use Aeroquip. Thanks Bill for mentioning JIC fittings. Never heard of that, but will go over to the tubing shop near here to see if they have them. Joe
