MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Exhaust Manifolds
About to fit my 3.5 motor into my MGB,the RV8 manifolds are from Clive W.together with his gaskets,do I have to use gasket paste(350 degrees C type is only availale locally)or can I fit them dry? Also is it best to fit the engine with the manifolds bolted to the engine or after the fitment of the engine into the engine compartment(inner wings cut out from a template sent by Mr.Simon Austen) Thanks Trevor Burnett

I used the exhaust manifold gaskets dry. I've never heard of a paste being used on them. Which way round you fit everything depends on your particular car. On my car I couldn't fit the engine with the manifolds (headers) bolted to it, but I couldn't get them in once the engine was fitted. So I had to rest them in the holes in the wings, then put the engine/gearbox in, then bolt the manifolds to the heads. It's worth having a dummy run lowering the engine into the space to check this sort of thing out.

Dry here to. Assuming they are the compressible metal-faced type that I have had from Clive they should be more than capable of sealing. The problem with past is that it can blow out and *cause* leaks. If the flanges don't seat properly - and the standard tubulars (mild-steel anyway) do warp in use unless you brace the flanges each to the next - it is that which should be addressed.

Yep, dry here too! And second the fitting suggestion, but mine could be fitted just before letting the block sit down on the mounts.
