MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Electro-hydraulic steering rack

Hi,
I have just got my hands on an electro-hydraulic steering rack out of a late model Mazda3. Anyone tried fitting this or similar or have any tips/tricks/hints when trying to incorporate a 'foreign' rack?
Is to go in a CB 70B rdstr with a 4.0L UZFE motor.
Cheers.
Steve

Steve,

I heared of a Peugoet 205 rack that should work on the B but never seen one.
Try to have a look upon the shop pages of the UK mgoc,
they offer a conversion for MGB's with electric pump too.

Steve, as long as the ratio is reasonably close and the width of the rack from inner rod end to inner rod end is the same you shouldn't have any major problems. A longer or shorter rack might cause some bump steer issues. I haven't tried changing the rack on a MG, but did build a couple of street rod chassis using different racks and suspensions. Ideally a line drawn through the pivot points of the upper control arm (shock in the case of a B)and the lower control arm should pass through the pivot point for the inner tie rod and all three elements be parallel to have the least bump steer.

Steve,
Personally I have no experience with what you are planning but I am very interested in how it all goes.

Please keep posting your progress if you would.

Cheers , Pete.
