MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Edelbrock 500 rod & jet selection

In the near future ,I'll be swapping the 3.5 ltr. block of my Rover engine for a 4.6 ltr. version.I'll be using the same Buick manifold & the Edelbrock 500 carby.
Can anyone advise as to what rod & jet combination I should start with ? Barrie E

It probably won't be all that far out, just a bit rich at full throttle on the secondries
To fix that will mean needles that are slightly fatter out on the second step
But really I'd be sitting it on as is - it will be rich if anything and you will have somewhere to work from

These carbs are fairly popular with the Chrysler Valiant guys maybee a valiant forum could help more
They are 4.3 litres I think so fairly close

Hi Barry,
Thinking of doing the same thing myself. Depends on if I can find a good A soon enough. Fork in the road.
Are you going to get stepped(Top Hat) liners?
Slipping liners seems to be a one in 4 sort of issue, even with the cos-cast blocks.
What do you think of triumph and Rover in SA?
They seem to have some nice bits and pieces. Check the 500BHP short motor

Guys
I have the Edelbrock 1404 on my 4.6 and also have an innovate wideband and guage too.
Primaries need to be an 86 jet with 67/55 rods secondary jets need to go down one size from the 95 to whatever the next size down is (92 I think). You will need to experiment with the step up springs for fine tuning if you have a flat spot.
These settings have remained the same throughout the engine improvements 282bhp up to the present 326bhp.
A fantastic carb and so easy to set up.

Cheers

Mark ,thanks for the info ,it gives me a starting point. If I get anything like 326BHP I'm going to need new anchors !
Peter, I'm not doing much to this block. I've had the crank reground only because the centre journal was a bit marked. The bores still had the honing marks, so new rings only have been fitted. The cam, lifters, & timing gears on my SD1 engine have only done just under 14000Klms so I'm hoping to use those as well as the heads & front cover.I'm told I should have the block pressure tested but, if it doesn't work out ,then the 3.5 block will be reinstalled. I didn't know about Triumph Rover spares in SA .Worth remembering.
Willy, I thought using the same jets & rods would make it leaner.I'm surprised about the Valiant use of the Edelbrock carby. I used to have a Valiant Charger 265 (4.3 ltrs)& it went like a bat out of hell with a 2 barrel Holley carb. I wish I still had it! Thanks guys, Barrie E
