MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Does GM make a 3.9 60 degree V6?

I hear rumours of a 3.9 60 degree V6 fron the general. I also hear it is cam in block and VVC? Anyone know more about this? Would it be an aluminum block?

I think you are talking about the engine in the Cadillac CTS, it is 3.6 60 degree V6 rated at 270 hp and I think it was like 240 lbs of torque based on the basic 2.8 engine. It has DOHC. The CTS is offered with that engine and a 6 speed.

Im sure it would be available in a couple of years on the used market but it wont be cheap.

I know that it is a derivative of the 3.4L and that it is new for 2006 model year...also believe it is 240hp....according to two V6 experts that I know, this engine is very complex and much will have to be learned about it before thinking of conversions...

Pete,
Yes, it is derived from the old 60 degree V6 series, but little to actually do with it. The block has been altered in cam location, possibly bore location and more. It has variable in block cam timing (a first according to what i understand for major manufacturers) variable intake runners and more. Promises at least 240 bhp, or was that the 3.5L? Anyways, the 3.5L is a derivative of the 3.4L, but a bit larger internals with drive by wire (same for the 3.9) and more. BTW: They call it infinite VVC. When i see one, i will be taking a closer look. As far as using it for a conversion, it will require more then any other to date.

A few people have already got their hands on the 3.5L and are switching it into earlier cars, but the system is so different that it requires a lot more time and money. Even the camshaft has a different sensor, so the old computers would not work with it so even an aftermarket ECU is needed for one of those conversions.

Mike,
The 3.6L is a DOHC and it will be coming out in a bigger series later as well as smaller series. GM has made that one into a global V6.
