MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Do I need these?

Hello All,

I am cleaning the V8, getting all the crud off and goo out whereever I can.

Under the rocker covers are two thin metal plates screwed to the inside top of the covers.

The oil filler cover has the plate running the full length, the flame trap side has it running half length. They are secured with some self tapping screws.

They are not sealing anything in and are acting as real rubbish traps.

What do they do and can I dispense with them ? (I like things as simple as possible!)

Liam,
I would keep them as I think they stop the motor from consuming a great deal of oil through the breather.
Others may know more.
