MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Dipstick mystery
| I discovered something odd when I recently changed the oil on my "new" 3.5L. The oil on the dipstick looked fresh, but the oil that I drained was quite dirty. The dipstick indicated decreases/increases in oil level as I drained and then refilled the engine. The engine came out of a '76 gray market Land Rover, and as far as I know, it has the stock oil pan. Thanks, Joe |

| The oil on the dipstick is only a few thou thick, against a bright metal background. If you just looked at the oil in the drainer that is going to be inches thick, hence unless the oil were as transparent as water is it bound to look darker in the drainer than on the stick. Other that that, it ain't possible. |
