MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Differential

ALSO,by rough measurement, reducing the carrier by .200inch it reduces the carrier flange thickness from approx. 9.5mm to 4.5mm.
Is this correct?
If this is correct is the carrier strong enough?
Appreciate all the comments I can get.

Hi
Pinion-new bearings- 10-12 inch/pounds (one foot/pound) drag to rotate pinion
Crownwheel-- .002" per side - .004" total preload.

4.5 mm is way too thin, maybee you could take a lot less off there and take some off the bearing mounting face as well and shim up the other side. It would depend how much clearance there is for the crownwheel bolt heads in the main housing. Willy

I usually assemble a diff up without the collapsable sleeve to start with so that if the pinion shim needs altering to get a good tooth pattern you don't waste a sleeve doing it. Cheers Willy
