MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Condenser

HI, I posted this forst on electrical, then realise there have onlt been 4 posts there in the last two months, so I'm not surte how well it's read.

I just realised I forgot to put the condenser back on my coil after I fitted my V8 into the GT. I have had it running for a couple of weeks.

IIRC the body of the condenser was directly earthed under the coil mounting bracket and the wire/spade connected to coil negative.

Does that sound correct?

Do you think I have caused any probelms by leaving it off?

Thanks

Liam.

Which distributor are you using, what you are describing sounds more like the remote amplifier unit and if that was not connected i do not see how the engine would run unless you have a DLMB8 which has the amlifier(small black box) on the side of the body of the distributor, and then there would only be 2 direct connections from the coil to a plug in connector on the amp.

Hi Kevin

It is the later unit with the amplifier on the side of the distributor with the two wires going to the coil.

Do you think then that this might be for radio interference supression? It was definitely on the neg side of the coil in the donor car.

Liam,

I must admit I don't have any idea what that is, I have the same distributor as you and I don't have the object you are describing. I think your guess that it's some sort of suppressor is probably right and it would be safe to leave it off or disconnected unless it gives a problem with radio reception, if thats important for you.
Perhaps one of the electrical guru's can enlighten us.
