MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Coil
| Hi All When i brought my reconditioned Rover SD1 3500cc it came with 2 coils, the guy i got it off said that i would not require a balast resister when i used one of the coils supplied. I don't have the numbers off the coils with me at the moment, the questions are; do i require a balast resister? If not what is the coil i need to fit? Thanks Graham |

| Graham, the stock coil for a 3.5 litre SD1 vas Lucas 22 C 12 with ballast resitor type 9BR for use with the Lucas Opus dizzy. There are numbers stamped on the bottom of the coil and ito the heatshield of the resitor. I run this setup since more than 20 Years in my V8 (SD1 engine). The only problem was the distributer itself. Two times the electronic board inside failed. Three year ago I coverted to the Newtronics ignition and all problems have gone. May be it is a good idea to invest in Haynes owners workshop manual no. 365 (ISBN 1 85010 363 1). It was a better investment for my V8 than most other publications I bought within the years. Ralph |
