MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Can Iron heads be used on the FWD Block

I finally got my 3.1 FWD engine on Saturday. The wiring harness is mostly there and "Oh my God", this will be a challenge.

So what If, I change direction slightly and use the 3.1 camero heads on the block? Can I do this?

I already had the mainifold and carb to use on the RWD block, but the one I got was such a good deal ($75) that I couldn't refuse it.

And if the heads can be changed, I figure I will bw able to use the 2.8 distributor. True?

Thanks, Mike

Michael, the iron heads will bolt to the FWD block, but the piston crown design is different. You should check Bill Guzmann's site, he has a lot of great information about the GM V6 and what parts interchange. http://www.classicconversionseng.com/

GM did not build a "camero"! It was a "Camaro" and it never had a FWD anything.

I know because I have had a 1968 Camaro for a loooong time & it will still smoke any MG with a V8 (well, Barney would be a close race)!

The cast iron heads will fit but do not flow as well as FWD heads.

If you have the DIS package why would you want to go back to the distributor (which always suffers from the heat - I have to rebuild one every 3 years or so).
