MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Cam change when the engine is still in the car.
I need to perform a camshaft change on my 79 MGB. The engine is a Rover SD1 V8 from 1984. Is it possible to change the cam without lifting the engine? Thanks in advance. Erik

Did that in my rubber bumper factory V8. It wasn't a straight pull forwards all the way, but it is out of the bearings before you have to angle it to get it past the cooling fans and oil cooler hoses, the cooler being under-slung of course, which should be the same as yours.

Thanks Paul, Yes my oilcooler is underslung. Do I have to drop the oilpan or just loosen it in order to release the camgear cover? Erik Ps I have located your article in the spanners section/ Ds

Just remove the front two sump bolts to release the timing cover, the others can be left as they are. When refitting use sealant along that bottom edge of the cover as well as the face that goes to the crankcase and gasket.

Thanks Paul Erik
