MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - At Last
| At long last I have the new reverse spring eye springs from Moss rated at 110lb and the 3.07 axle fitted to to my 75 rubber bumper GT V8 conversion. The car already had a telescopic damper conversion fitted by a previous owner, until we took the dampers off it was impossible to see what they were, it turns out that they are Gabriel and are in good working order, not adjustable but appear to have a damping rate that suits the car and in combination with the new springs give an excellent ride and with new Poly spring pads and standard bushes the axle feels much better located. The ride height at the rear is now 14.75" which is just about perfect. The higher ratio axle also makes the car much more pleasant to drive in that you don't seem to be running out of revs just after dropping the clutch, it now will do 40MPH in 1st 65MPH 2nd 95MPH 3rd 133MPH 4th and how brave or foolhardy are you in 5th Joking apart 5th gear is now a great cruising ratio with only about 2250 RPM at 70MPH with 15" wheels and 195/65 tyres, so should help reduce consumption of the increasingly expensive go juice. It seems to have taken an age to get to this stage of the cars development and all thats left for the moment, is soundproofing and fitting the new nimbus Grey trim kit which I got from Moss took over 3 months to appear because of an internal ordering c--k up but they have done an excellent job at a very fair price. I'm now looking forward to some enjoyable driving. Kevin Jackson. |
