MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - amplifiers
Has anyone experience, and views, on after market amplifier modules for 35DM8 distributors? MSD or otherwise. I have a 3.5 Vitesse engine with 3.9 cam, stage 2 heads, rv8 headers and Edelbrock on JWR dual port manifold. It is pretty wonderful, but then it's a wonderful engine, but I doubt I'm getting the "Bangs" per precious gallon!

Allan, after i changed the module in my 35DE twice due to breakdowns caused by overheating, i switched to the Newtronic kit and there is only an optical trigger left inside the dizzy. The module of this ignition is inside a blackbox that i mounted in front of the radiator above the LH signal horn. No problems within the last five years anymore. In the engine compartment of a SD1, there is enough air flow to keep the under bonnet temperature at reasonable hights, a difference to the MGB where everything is heated up rather more than calculated by the development of the Lucas Opus. There are also other models offered, they all work the same way. Getting the electronic mounted in a 'cold' area of the engine compartment makes it relyable. Setting the ignition on these old engines works best when the dizzy is turned until ignition knock is heared and then set back again. Hope this helps Ralph

Thanks Ralph, Is this just a basic amplifier, or intended to produce higher output or Multiple spark? I provided my dizzie with a cold air feed from the valance, plus a computer fan for when stationary. Never had a problem with reliability, just want better combustion! Allan
