MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 7x15 minilites using wire wheel axle?
I have now put my back end together using my new wire wheel MGC axle. I have 5.5x15 wire wheels with 195/65s fitted. My rear arches are rolled - no lips to give max clearance. I had the wires fitted with my MGB wire wheel axle and never had any clearance problems, even with 2.5in lowered leaf springs. I now want to fit some minilites - might be safer with the V8! I have some bolt on hubs, so swap over, so should be able to fit wider wheels in the rear arches now. The MG Owners Club V8 Supersports had 7.5x17s fitted in the rear arches with 225 tyres. They had rolled the arches and the car did ride quite high, but they fitted - just! I just want to fit some 7x15 minilites to the rear. Does anyone know what offset I would need? Need to make sure the tyres would clear the outer arch, but also the inner arch behind the wheel, due to the narrower axle? I am looking to fit 205 tyres preferably. Could use 195s if necessary. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards, Paul

Paul, You will need either spacers or an offset to bring your wheels away from the leaf springs about 1/2 in. I have 205 14's on my MGC wire wheel axle with bolt on MGB hubs. The only problem when fitting them was the tires hitting the bulge for the bump stops on the inner fender. I believe my wheels are zero offset.

Paul Im using 7x15 minilite style wheels from Compomotive. They will make up wheels with the right offsetfor you. You just need to do the measuring. http://www.comp.co.uk/products/motorsport.htm I found them very helpful when I ordered mine. 205 tyres fit easily but 225's are too tight. You will need to cut out the bump stop bulge and weld a flat plate in. If you need pics let me know. Mark

If you are running with a tight clearance you may need a pannard rod to restrict sidways movement of the axle.
