MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 2.5 to 2.8

does anyone know if a chevy 2.8 will bolt in place and use the same tranny and drive shaft etc as the 2.5 in an 89 s10
Tommy

If you get the correct bellhousing for the 2.8 then it should fit. The block bolt pattern for the bellhousing is quite different from the 2.5 to the 2.8. The 2.5 bellhousing should bolt up to a 4.3 or V8 though. Either of those would probably mean the end of life for your transmission though. Drive shaft shouldn't need to be changed with either the 2.8 or 4.3, there's enough room in the '89 engine compartment for them in stock location. I'm assuming you have a manual transmission, if it's an automatic, then use a 4.3 or else you'd have to find another transmission to match the 2.8 pattern.
Of course the best thing you could do is leave the S10 alone and put the V6 in your favorite MG. ;-)

Tommy,

http://www.s10forum.com

and

http://s-seriesforum.com/

might be a more appropriate forum for you but Bill is correct. Both even use a 14 spline T5 so it might be possible to use the clutch over, but I am not sure.

You will also need to change the motor mounts out along with wiring issues but that should be pretty easy assuming that your curent 2.5L is a carb model or you will be going to a carbed 2.8L V6.

Dont take me wrong, itshould be pretty easy, but not a drop and go job.
